Mini Company/Young Enterprise
In all aspects of modern day life the application of Business Studies has become increasingly relevant and in recent years, TV programmes such as ‘The Dragons Den’, ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Risking it All’ have encouraged many to set up their own business. Every year a group of Business Studies students have the exciting opportunity to set up and run a mini company within school in conjunction with the Young Enterprise Programme. This is a vibrant activity and utilises and develops a lot of important skills such as teamwork, communication, creative ideas, problem solving and effective decision making in order to achieve results.
Throughout the year the team will mentored by a business adviser who comes into school once a week to offer our pupils the benefit of their business experience and to support them as they make the decisions necessary to run and operate an effective business.
Towards the end of the year the team will participate in the Team Young Enterprise Programme competition for which they have to prepare a five minute presentation and a business report which are then judged by a panel of business people. The overall winner of the Belfast and Castlereagh region progresses to the finals which is a black tie event in Belfast City Hall. Last year our pupils won the best Team programme for Belfast and Castlereagh region so the pressure is on for this year!
Our mini-company this year is called Forget-Me-Not and are making hand-made luxury cards and gifts.
